abstract = {This paper evaluates an image shape retrieval method using various distance metrics (Euclidean, Intersect, Hamming, and Cityblock) and k-nearest neighbors (kNN) classifiers (original kNN, mean distance kNN, and weighted kNN). A new shape descriptor, CPDH36R, improves upon the original CPDH descriptor, achieving higher success rates across Kimia99, Kimia25, MPEG7, and MPEG2 datasets. The Cityblock distance with the original kNN classifier yields the best performance, notably improving accuracy in MPEG2. Additionally, the proposed method significantly reduces computational cost compared to the original Earth Mover Distance classifier.},

abstract = {A new textural descriptor called Longitudinal and Transversal Profiles (LTP) has been proposed to classify images of dead and alive spermatozoa heads. The dataset consists of 376 dead spermatozoa head images and 472 alive ones. The performance of LTP was compared to other descriptors like Pattern Spectrum, Flusser, Hu, and a histogram-based statistical descriptor. The feature vectors were classified using both a back-propagation Neural Network and the kNN algorithm. The LTP descriptor achieved a classification error of 30.58%, outperforming the other descriptors. Additionally, the Area Under the ROC Curve (AUC) confirmed that LTP provided better performance than the other texture descriptors.},

abstract = {Este estudio clasifica la rugosidad de piezas metálicas en procesos de torneado mediante análisis de imagen y evalúa la influencia del ángulo de iluminación. Se emplean cuatro descriptores de primer orden (media, desviación estándar, asimetría y kurtosis) y el clasificador KNN. Se analizaron 284 imágenes, comparando los resultados con métodos tradicionales. Los errores obtenidos fueron: coaxial 0.70%, angular 9.68% y rasante 1.03%. Los resultados destacan la importancia de la iluminación en la medición de la rugosidad y la efectividad de los descriptores de textura.},
